Supportive Living

At Chinook Village, Supportive Living means regular living without the hassle. We handle your chores such as housekeeping, laundry and various tasks that you've been doing yourself for far too long so you can get on with living your best life now!

Medicine Hat’s Chinook Village provides a wide range of Supportive Living amenities and there are always like-minded friends around so that you never feel bored or lonely. Should the time come that you may need some extra assistance, we can also provide this with our Assisted Living program, part of the aging in place continuum of care provided by Chinook Village.

The majority of our Supportive Living residents enjoy preparing their own meals, or snacks in their fully equipped kitchen. However, as a bonus, we also include one freshly made, nourishing meal a day for their convenience and well-being.Supportive Living Residents can choose from lunch or dinner in the dining room.

Assisted Living

Our Assisted Living program is a part of the aging in place continuum of care provided by Chinook Village. Your personalized care plan will accommodate your health needs to provide both you and your family with peace of mind.

You're free to live your life on your terms, at a pace and place that is comfortable for you. There are endless activities and amenities, it’s so easy to make new friends, and we're always on the sidelines to give support. Our caring staff is there 24/7 encouraging you to maintain your independence and dignity while lending a helping hand if and when you need it.

Your beautiful private suite with large wheelchair access bathrooms, kitchenettes, living spaces and bright bedrooms will make you feel right at home.

Aging-in-Place

Should the time should come when that little extra help is needed, it’s good to know that at Chinook Village, we’ll have your new needs covered. Under the same roof. The same familiar faces. Same familiar places.Same good friends. No disruptive move to a strange new place to live.

Aging-in-place at Chinook Village means remaining in familiar surroundings, close to family and friends, retaining personal belongings, and avoiding life's disrupting moves.

It also means enjoying, under the same roof, the ongoing freedom to live, build relationships and participate fully in your own home and community safely and securely. And to do so comfortably and as independently as is practical for you, regardless of your age, or, ability level.

Life Lease Living

A Life Lease is a legal agreement that is a hybrid between renting and owning a residential premise. When you accept a Life Lease agreement, you buy the exclusive right to occupy a suite as long as you want to live in your suite. As Chinook Village is a registered not-for-profit organization, you can rely on us to price units below market value in comparison to other similar homes and condos in Medicine Hat.

Criteria for Life Leasing at Chinook Village

Similar to other communities, Chinook Village also has a few rules and regulations to ensure the safety and well-being of residents. You can check the rules and regulations in the agreement before occupying a suite. Just a reminder here that Chinook Village is a pet-free and smoke-free environment and is for adults who are 50 years of age or older.

What Does a Life Lease Cost?‍

The cost of your Life Lease will be calculated on the basis of:

●        The size of your suite
●        Various other factors like upgrades, the view, and more

Instead of owning a tangible property for your retirement, you can choose to invest in a  worry free lifestyle with a Life Lease. Your purchase in a Life Lease is similar to purchasing a house or condo and is made up-front. But, you do not pay real-estate or typical legal fees, as when you purchase a retirement condo or house.

Life Lease holders also pay monthly fees for on-going maintenance and yearly property taxes. In addition to this, Life Lease contracts will contain the formula to calculate the pay out indicating the amount to be returned to Life Leasers when they leave.

Transfer of a Life Lease

You can transfer from one lifestyle choice to another, e.g. from Independent Living to Supportive Living, the value of your current suite will be adjusted for the purchase of the new suite. If there is a difference, you would either be paid, or, you would need to pay, the difference.

Respite Care

A Respite Care stay can also be helpful following a hospitalization, when a loved one has been discharged, but is perhaps not quite ready to live at home independently or with caregiver help.

Respite care guests stay in one of our fully furnished Assisted Living suite, complete with phone, TV and cable, and enjoy access to the same amenities and activities as residents

Prior to confirming a Respite Care stay for a loved one, a Licensed Practical Nurse will visit to ensure that we are a mutual fit and that care needs can be met.

Who is Eligible for Respite Care?‍

●      50+ years of age
●      Able to mobilize independently, with or without mobility aids
●      Ability to eat independently
●      Not at risk of wandering
●      Non-smoking
●      Able to move independently with or without help
●      Observance of all ChinookVillage protocols and policies

Short Term/Trial Stays

Many current residents in Chinook Village also “tested the waters” with a short stay to explore if life in a retirement community was the right move for them.

Guest Suites

Chinook Village has eleven full-housekeeping guest suites, conveniently interspersed throughout The Village.

Each guest suite features Queen-sized beds complete with linens, tv and internet. Your guests will also enjoy access to the Dining Room and all amenities - it’s like a mini-staycation! Our housekeepers clean and sanitize suites after each stay, so you can rest assured your guests will have a worry-free and safe stay.
